Oh No! Oh My! began generating a decent amount of buzz among other music blogs in the spring. By June, this band from Nashville by way of Austin released their first full-length album on their own. Their determination to independently sell a product without label and/or distribution support was reminiscent of last year’s ultra-hyped band, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
The band shows a great amount of range on the album by using a mulitude of wurlitzers, keys, banjos, acoustic guitars, and percussive instruments. “Walk In the Park” is a perfect pop song guaranteed to throw a little bit of sunshine on any cloudy day.
“Lisa, Make Love! (It’s Okay!)” is an innocent acoustic folk song accompanied with a beautiful flute and accordion about a young girl struggling with socialization and growing up.
“I Love You All the Time” shows the band’s diversity with its inclusion of samples and programming. The beat and overall mood grows somewhat eerie amongst the backdrop of lead singer Greg Barkley’s vocals as he cynically sings about a seemingly high-maintenance girlfriend. We’ve all been there, haven’t we?
