What will most likely be the throwback album of 2008. Who cares if it has all been done before and his influences are worn very boldly on his sleeve; Jamie Lidell has taken the likes of soul legends like Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cook and all those other virtuosos to concoct a monster of a soul-revival LP. If you thought 2005’s lead single, “Multiply” was an absolute classic, hit the click for a small taste of what his forthcoming record, Jim has to offer.
Just like ’05’s Multiply, the once exclusively electronic label, Warp is putting out this straight up soul-banger of a record. The more upbeat tracks make me want to endlessly hit repeat, but it’s the slow jams like, “All I Wanna Do” that make this man from Berlin exclusively standout as the man to bring this timeless genre back to today’s masses. “Little Bit of Feel Good” is the lead single which you can hear/watch below and then we already have a remix of, “Figured Me Out”, but don’t worry, the remix keeps the funk intact without taking anything away from the man’s true talent-using his vocals to bring back a genre I really need to catch up on.
Straight funky! I really like this guy but was thrown for a loop a couple years ago when he was touring his last album. I know his performances frustrated you at times as well. But when he sticks to this formula, he’s tough to compete with.
Have you heard the rest of the album yet? Is the remix for ‘Figure Me Out’ much of a stretch from the original?
Solid gold again, child!
HIs new album is definitely top 5 material. There is no bullshit on it at all. Just 10 soulful jams. So yes, it’s been on repeat around these parts. You didn’t jump on it when I asked if you wanted a taste, son. Never too late though…
