While the UK professors are on sabbatical, I will attempt to throw a little something at you in the rock realm that has the youthful exuberance I know you all miss. Frightened Rabbit have gained some attention and rightfully so; they’re definitely worth your time, but like I said before, it’s important to note who other bands are friendly with. This time around, it’s the Rabbits’ fellow Scottish companions–We Were Promised Jetpacks.
Upbeat, UK rock, (this is a description to me) with pounding drum rolls, and the ability to create catchy tracks are what WWPJ are. The combination of guitar and driving bass generate some rather colorful melodies behind soaring vocals. Based just on these three songs below, this quartet looks to hold endless potential. If these don’t hook you, I doubt you were ever about the music anyways. Please enjoy….
awesome post! i’m seeing them, being Frightened Rabbit, here in denver on june 15th with TRC! i’ll check out the other rec…
That should be a quality gig. Small venue, JT? I really dig these three songs….accents and all!
I wasn’t familiar with either band before reading your post, but I appreciate both recommendations as you probably expected. The WWPJ songs are a little lengthy to me, but I still appreciate the grand melodies and harmonized choruses in each of the songs. For someone who isn’t much into UK bands and ‘heavy accents,’ you sure have had your fair share of UK recommendations. I love it. Edinburgh!
