
There was a time when I shunned music based on where it stemmed from – it wasn’t I was prejudice against a certain nation, it was simply, the tone of that countryman’s delivery. Their accent was a crack of knuckles or a screech on a blackboard. Disregarding quality acts with driving guitar lines and colorful melodies that practically explode doesn’t make sense anymore. We Were Promised Jetpacks, a young, Scottish act, set the stage last year with their anthemic EP. As predicted, these three songs were simply an idea of what this quartet could generate. Similar to last year’s Frightened Rabbit surprise, these young lads have given me another reason to never let my ears discriminate. Jetpacks’ debut LP These Four Walls pick up where Frightened Rabbit’s monumental Midnight Organ Fight left off; but with youthful, non-stop vigor and frenetic playing from start to finish.
