As we approach the eve of an imminent departure, I find it fitting to have stumbled upon this band from Boston, MA. They call themselves Pretty & Nice and sound eerily similar to the reason this site exists in the first place. The group is the brainchild of one guy, Holden Lewis, who recruited someone to help produce and EP’s worth of material. The two toured the land before adding a drummer to cement the trio.
A collection of remixes of songs featured on the EP caught the attention of the Sub Pop subsidiary, Hardly Art. The band spent the next year recording their debut album, Get Young, in their newly assembled basement studio. It dropped in October and features endlessly contagious pop falsetto hooks and harmonies reminiscent to the exuberance of XTC and Devo . “Tora, Tora, Tora” is the first single and sounds like OK Go with a driving punch. But the song that caught my attention, however, is “Piranha” – a track that could easily be mistaken for the one man jam himself.
Celebrate tax day with Pretty & Nice at the Empty Bottle on Wednesday. One last show perhaps, dude? If not, they’ll be around your new digs on Sunday at the Hi-Dive.

Excellent suggestion, sir. I was also hoping at some point to find an examination of the cultural significance of music from MTV reality shows, namely the soundtracks for Real World/Road Rules Challenges. Surely you can find time for something of that nature. I’ll be waiting.
