The Spanish deserve more nods on this blog. My fire to brush up on my Español has returned. And I feel, similar to before, an essential resource is music. Today’s teacher is Bebe – a forward thinking artist from Valencia, Spain, who blends flamenco, folk, and upbeat rhythms all with straight up pop sensibilities. Bebe’s vocal delivery is mood dependent; she has the capability to shift delivery methods. The on/off switch teeters between tranquil, smooth, like an Ely Guerra meets Julieta Venegas; and in a song like “Malo”, where the content is dark and overall angry, her approach turns rather ferocious. Whether singing like the sun is shining and everything is alright, or vocally spitting about abuse, Bebe will be a resource to return to over and over again…
A rather electrifying performance.(Italian subtitles) Bebe’s initial welcoming voice draws you in; the upbeat rhythms and fiery delivery, when brought, are capable of igniting a small frenzy…
